Upon Arrival NU Car Rentals service is provided in cooperation with Solid Car Rentals in Costa Rica. We are located just diagonal of the Pto. Jimenez Airport and right on Airport St. NU Car Rentals Meet and Greet service is provided when valid flight information is received at the time of booking. Upon exiting the Baggage Claim area you will be met by an agent bearing a sign with your name. If you did not provide us with your flight details you can either call us at 2735-5777 and we will pick you up in 5 minutes or you can turn right as you exit the Terminal and proceed to our office located 50 meters away or if you need assistance, please call us at 2735-5777 and we will pick you up. From the USA and Canada call 1-800-390-7065 or for other International call +(506) 2735-5777 or +(506) 2242-6000. Vehicles are held up to 2 hours after the arrival time on your reservation. Insurance Collision Damage Waiver-CDW is an optional protection. In case of an accident the renter will pay the deductible amount. Renter may decline CDW and use credit card or insurance policy by presenting written proof of coverage stating type of vehicle covered-amt of coverage-valid during dates of rental and a 3000US deposit. If CDW is declined purchase of SLI-Z is required -Renter is responsible for all damage to rental vehicle-company pays liability. 3rd Party Ins and credit card coverage REIMBURSE you for damages to our vehicle. All damages must be paid by the renter in full prior to leaving Costa Rica. You can file for reimbursement from your provider.
Third Party Liability- SLI is required at our company in case of accident with a third party. The renter will be responsible for 20 percent of total damages and the company pays 80 percent. If the renter declines CDW then SLI-Z will be mandatory.
If CDW is accepted the deposit will be 900.00 to 1600.00USD to cover the excess/renter responsibility per car type as shown below. We offer the following basic CDW and SLI:
CDW is 10.00USD per day for all sedans. Renter responsibility is 900.00USD. SLI is 20.00USD per day.
CDW is 9.99USD per day for SUVS except Premium and Luxury models and Renter Responsibility is 1200.00USD. SLI is 24.99USD per day
CDW is 11.99USD per day for Premium and Luxury SUVs and Vans. Renter responsibility is 1600.00USD. SLI is 26.99USD per day.
Zero deductible protection- CDW-Z and SLI-Z will provide zero deductible protection for the renter. These coverages are subject to rules for reporting and negligent driving as below.
In case of negligence any protection will be canceled and renter will be responsible and agrees to pay for all damages to the rental vehicle and third party vehicles properties and persons involved in the accident. Negligence includes but is not limited to driving the vehicle across rivers-driving under the influence of alcohol drugs or any other substance that may affect your ability to drive-leaving the rental vehicle unattended- falling asleep while driving-ignoring traffic signals or police or fire personnel- vandalism et cetera.
In case of accident the renter must present the transit police report and the insurance report for coverage to be valid and effective.
Road Assistance is offered for 5.00USD per day and includes key locked in car-jump starts-gas service if run out and crane. If not purchased renter is responsible for any service fees.
Accessory protection (ACC)-covers windows windshield tires radio rear view mirrors antenna and side mirrors. For this protection to be valid the renter must call Solid Rent A Car at the time of accident to present the accident report. If not reported or if coverage not purchased the renter will be fully responsible for this damage.
In case of accident or breakdown please call us at 2442-6000. After hours for accident or breakdown please call 911, ask for police presence. Then call us at 8836-5566 and we will assist you every step of the way.
Special Equipment Costa Rica law requires children 0-7yrs or 10-30kg to travel in a Child seat. They are available for 5.00USD per day. Please request at booking and indicate type of seat needed.
GPS is also available for 10.00 USD per day. Roof racks/luggage racks are 10.00USD per day. For all equipment please request at time of booking. Special equipment is subject to availability,
Fuel The vehicle must be returned with the same amount of fuel as rented to avoid a refueling service charge. As an option we offer prepaid fuel and you will not need to worry about gasoline amounts. Please ask at the rental counter for prices.
One Way Rentals One way rentals are allowed with previous authorization. The drop fee will vary depending on the number of rental days and the drop off location.
Geographic Restrictions Cars are not allowed to leave the country of Costa Rica. For rentals less than 3 days 150 free kilometers per day are included in the rate. Additional kms are .25 USD each. Rentals 3 days or longer include unlimited kilometers. Renter may travel on all official mapped roads. Driving on beaches, rivers, lakes or off-road is NOT allowed. Please ask the rental counter for a map to guide you. Violation of any driving restrictions makes all coverage null and void and leaves renter responsible for the full value of the vehicle.
Driver Qualifications All drivers must present a valid drivers license. Foreign renters must present a valid drivers license and a valid passport and based on the date of the entry stamp will be allowed to rent a vehicle for up to 90 days. We accept international or other valid drivers license in Roman alphabet.
Minimum age for driver is 21, maximum is 75. Young drivers 21yrs to 25yrs old are charged 10.00 USD per day underage driver fee. Additional drivers are 5.00USD per day; spouse is 3.00USD a day. All drivers must meet all rental requirements and have their name on the rental agreement at the time of rental.
Credit Card Guarantees If you have reserved a pay on arrival rental, a credit card guarantee is required in order to reserve a vehicle. This credit card will be validated at the time of reservation and may show a 1.00USD temporary authorization on your credit card statement. However, no actual guarantee fee will be incurred unless the Customer is a No Show; in which case a No Show fee equivalent to a one day rental or a minimum of $50 00 will be charged to the credit card provided as a guarantee. If your plans change, you can avoid this fee by cancelling your reservation through the same site on which you made your reservation at least 48 hours in advance of your scheduled rental time.
If you reserved a Prepaid (Pay Now) reservation, you will be charged a Booking Fee equivalent to the total charges of your reservation. The Credit Card used for prepayment MUST be presented at the rental counter at time of pick up. This is a non-refundable reservation and may not be modified. If you do not pick up your rental when scheduled your reservation will be cancelled and you will not receive a refund or a credit.
Inclusive Rate Pckg. Should you purchase an Inclusive Rate Package please note that CDW basic liability taxes and fees are included in your rate. There is a credit card deposit-950.00 to 1600.00USD depending on the vehicle rented. This amount will be returned to you upon completion of the rental if the vehicle is returned without damage. Should the vehicle be damaged the renter will be responsible for the excess given at time of rental 900-1600USD. NOT included in your rate is the Fuel, Underage Drivers Fee, Additional Drivers Fee and special Equipment such as baby seats, GPS Out of Hours fee and Supplemental Liability Insurance.
Credit & Debit Card Policy All renters must present a valid credit card in his or her own name at the time of the rental. We accept Visa Mastercard and American Express. The credit card must be able to authorize the total amount of the rental plus the security deposit according the the vehicle type rented.
The deposit will be released upon completion of the rental with no damage to the vehicle. Return to your account may take 10-20 working days depending upon your bank.
Some debit cards are allowed only to pay at the end of the rental agreement.
Legal Notice NU Car Rentals provides a Car Rental Affiliate Reservation System and acts as an Agent for the convenience of You, the customer and the local owned and operated rental car firm. We use reasonable commercial efforts to insure the accuracy of all information posted on our website or distributed to other websites. Our liability, if any, shall be limited to the amount of rental charges paid to us. The terms, conditions and prevailing law covering the rental shall be those stated on the rental contract presented at the actual rental location.
Additional Information If you booked a Pay Now Special rate you will be charged in US dollars a nonrefundable deposit equivalent to the amount of the rental charges for the reserved period. Charges will appear on your statement as NU Car Rentals Website San Antonio, TX. Additional charges will be collected at rental in local currency A rental day consists of a 24 hour period. Changes to the reservation may result in a change of rate or an additional fee. There are no refunds for early returns.
If After hours returns are permitted the renter will be billed to the start of the next business day and is responsible for the rental vehicle until inspected by a company representative. Please inquire at the rental counter for further details. Note there is no shuttle service available outside hours of operation
